Sahel contributes to talent development in the Nigerian agriculture sector through the Sahel Scholars’ Programme (SASP). Through conferences, internship and scholarships targeted at Faculties of Agriculture in leading Nigerian universities, Sahel ensuresbstudents are empowered with relevant skills required to launch successful careers in the sector and informed about new and emerging opportunities in agriculture.
Since the launch of the programme in 2017, Sahel has reached more than 3,000 agriculture students in several Nigerian universities, awarded scholarships to nine (9) students in their penultimate year and also employed a very outstanding alumni of the programme.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Sahel Scholar programme were virtual, allowing us to reach students beyond Nigeria and a broader set of stakeholders that include educators and researchers in agriculture.
